Who I am…
Javier Márquez is a Spanish musician, composer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist from Córdoba whose work draws on a wide range of influences, including classical music, New Age, folk, World Music, and contemporary fusion. With a particular affinity for ethnic wind instruments, he has developed a distinctive musical voice that brings together acoustic textures, evocative melodies, and cinematic atmospheres.
A voting member of both the Recording Academy (GRAMMY® Awards) and the Latin Recording Academy (Latin GRAMMY® Awards), Márquez combines his work as a composer and recording artist with an extensive career as a session and live musician.
Since 2024, he has been part of acclaimed flamenco guitarist Vicente Amigo’s touring band, performing in concerts presenting Andenes del Tiempo. In 2026, he also accompanied renowned Spanish singer Miguel Poveda on bansuri during a performance of “Alma ausente,” from the documentary Enlorquecido, on the Spanish television program La Revuelta (La 1).
His work as an ethnic wind instrumentalist has also led him into film and television. In late 2024, he recorded ethnic winds for El Cautivo, directed by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Alejandro Amenábar and released in 2025. His recording credits also include Season 5 of Netflix’s Money Heist (La Casa de Papel), Iván M. Lacámara’s instrumental soundtrack for Prime Video’s Zorro, and Vanessa Garde’s score for Ocho Apellidos Marroquís.
Márquez has collaborated with internationally recognized artists across different musical traditions. He appears as a featured artist on “Sirdes Mouté u Tapour,” from Ara by renowned violinist Ara Malikian, and performed during Eliseo Parra’s 2023 tour, as well as recording duduk for Parra’s album Diacrónico.
As a solo artist and composer, his work has received international recognition. His album The Shelter Point won the New Age/Ambient category at the 2021 Hollywood Music in Media Awards and received two Silver Medals at the 2022 Global Music Awards for Best Album and Best New Age Album.
His 2024 album Momentum earned a nomination for Best New Age Album at the 2024 World Entertainment Awards, while “Quietude,” from the same album, was nominated for Best Contemporary Classical Work/Composition at the 2025 Spanish Music Awards.
In 2026, Márquez received a Gold Medal at the European International Music Awards for Lamento en suspiro menor in the Best Classical Crossover Composer category, further establishing a body of work defined by emotional depth, cross-cultural instrumentation, and a deeply personal approach to contemporary instrumental music.

How did this new piece come about?
Lamento emerges as an intimate and inevitable response to an absence that suddenly enters one’s life and disrupts the emotional balance. Music becomes a space of solace and healing, a language capable of expressing what words cannot fully convey.
The title refers not only to grief, but also to the act of acknowledging absence, living with it, and allowing it to be felt without resistance, transforming suffering into a sonic memory.
The choice of the Armenian duduk stems from its ancient, deeply human timbre, reminiscent of restrained weeping. Its fragile, earthy voice evokes breath, a primal lament, and a sense of longing for what can never be recovered.
Lamento is conceived as a process of healing through sound: a bridge between absence and acceptance, where emotion is transformed into sound and endures as a contemplative experience.
